I've been in Lima, Peru for exactly a week now. The trip down did not go exactly as planned ( was required to purchase a return ticket. The refund should appear in my account within a week. Please say a prayer if you think of it.) Nonetheless the 36 hours of traveling was rewarded with access to the country & a welcoming committee.
My roommates were a bit delayed in their arrival but they are all here safe and sound. I braved through one night at the house alone before their arrival but ended up chickening out. Now that they are here the house is cozier and more lively. They had a jam session in the living room this evening.
I'm sure you've all heard about culture shock; I'm definitely experiencing it in some form but for the most part things in Lima seem pretty normal. Most of my observations are about how things are different or not quite the same as in Germany... The Spanish has been my biggest adjustment so far. My ear is already getting better. Now I just need my brain and mouth to catch up! The little German I know is still my first reaction to speak.
Anyway, I'll write some more when I'm a bit more lucid. Blessings and thank you for your prayers and encouragement!!
Aubrey
